Ring, borrowed from friend, was given by Khaula to her friend two years ago.
Ring, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Arabic calligraphy "Is God not sufficient for his servant"
How is this object or story important to you?

It is important because it represents Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's revelation of peace. It is a symbol of religion and it is physically small but spiritually powerful. The ring is a symbol of community, religion and spiritual objects.

What does it add to the story of Toronto?

The ring represents diversity within Toronto and freedom within Canada. Khaula's parents migrated from Pakistan in 1990 and have lived in both Calgary and Toronto. In Pakistan the Ahamadiyya sect of muslims are persecuted in Pakistan and are constantly under scrutiny. Being able to wear the ring around Toronto is a symbol of freedom to her. In Pakistan wearing the ring is directly associated with persecution due to fact that the sect is not accepted as a true faith within Pakistan, as the majority of Muslims in Pakistan identify with the Sunni sect.

How did you acquire it?

This ring was borrowed from a friend but was originally a gift.

How old do you think it is?

The ring is 3 years old but the tradition dates back to when the Messiah Mirza Ahmad first received the revelation.
