Admission Ticket to CityTV BOOGIE Dance Show
Admission Ticket from Dec 13, around 1975. It was a pre-taped event at 99 Queen St East.
How is this object or story important to you?
I become one of the featured dancers for over a year. I wore suede blue platform shoes and had a full permed afro. My dance was the bump. I also did the splits and lots of athletic moves. Kung Fu Fighting was my favourite song.
What does it add to the story of Toronto?
It was s period in time when Toronto was trying to find its soul, breaking out of the box and trying new things. CityTV were innovators and this was one of their first attempts to disrupt broadcasting and engage the younger generations. This ticket represents that experimentation.
How did you acquire it?
I won a dance contest at a bar on Bloor St. that I entered on a lark. I danced for a year on the BOOGIE dance show.
How old do you think it is?
Around 40 years old
