Romance at The Senator
How is this object or story important to you?

I worked at the Senator - the steak house, the jazz club and cigar lounge, back when it was still called the Senator. It was owned by Sam Schneiderman, also known as Sam the Record Man. I was a bartender and an actor. Kate was also and actor. We met in Sudbury, doing a play at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. The play was called Cosi by Louis Nowra. We met and fell and love... it was complicated, which we won't get into. Six months later we got together, but after 10 years and two kids, we decided it was going to work out. We got married at The Senator, at breakfast service right before the lunch rush. Just the two of us. Our witnesses were the waiter and the officiant's husband, and it was also their anniversary on the same day. We could hear the juicer going in the background. They played our music - a CD - and they gave us champagne.

What does it add to the story of Toronto?

Romance - and it happens in so many unexpected ways!
